ChamChi MaYo Samgak-gimbap

Triangle kimbap called SamGak GimBap in Korean is one of the common pre-made foods at convenience stores in Korea. Since the kimbap is wrapped in a disposable plastic package, it is easy to carry and eat wherever or whenever you want. Not only it is delicious, it is also very neat and cool to carry around, so it can be perfect for a lunch box or picnic. In a Korean grocery store, you can find the kit for making this triangle kimbap.

(for 3-4 servings, or 8-9 samgak-gimbap) Cooked rice (about 4 cups), vinegar, white sugar, salt, seaweed for samgak-gimbap, a can of tuna, soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, roasted

  1. 1.Combine 2½ cups of cooked rice, 1 tsp of sesame oil, 1 tsp of sesame seeds, and ⅛-¼ tsp of salt. Mix everything together gently. Use short grain or sushi rice, not long grain rice, for the right texture and taste. Cover it with a plastic wrap and set it aside while preparing the filling. Both the seaweed and rice will be the same in both recipes, except for the amount of saltiness.
  2. For the tuna mayo kimbap, combine ½ cup of tuna, 2 Tbsp of mayonnaise, and 1 pinch of black pepper. Before using the tuna, drain the oil first.
  3. Mix everything together. Depending on your tastes, you can add more mayonnaise or salt.
Place the side marked with the number “1” facedown, with the “1” at the top. Then place the plastic forming tool on top of the seaweed at the top of the seaweed.
  4. Fill the mold about 2/3 full with cooked rice.
  5. Place your filling in the center.
  6. Top up the mold with rice, put on the lid, and press it down.
  7. Take out a piece of gim from the package. Don’t remove the plastic wrap, we need this! Look for the numbers on the sheet. The numbers side of the sheet goes down, and #1 should be pointing away from you.
  8. Take the lid off your mold, and place it face down on your sheet. The tip of the triangle should be pointing away from you, towards #1. Let the rice packet gently slide out on to the sheet.
  9. Fold the sheet over the rice, away from you and towards #1. Then fold up the sides. Keep them in place with the sticker that came with the gim
